Whether they are picking up an instrument for the first time or ready to take the next step, TVMS helps young people learn, perform and belong. With affordable lessons, instrument hire and local ensembles across the Tees Valley, your child can start small and grow into a confident musician.

At Tees Valley Music Service, we believe that music is for everyone — children discovering their first instrument, teenagers expanding their musical identity, and adults picking up a lifelong dream or returning to music after a break. Whether you’re learning in school, joining as an adult, or exploring music as a family, TVMS offers a friendly, supportive environment built around progress, creativity, and confidence.

  • We have a great number of expert teachers, backed by a professional administrative support team.

  • Our teachers undergo annual DBS checks and ongoing safeguarding training.

How do I register for lessons?

You can register by selecting the relevant registration option above. Registration is the first step, and TVMS will confirm lesson availability and next steps.

When will lessons begin?

Lessons usually begin after your completed registration has been processed, depending on teacher availability, space availability, group viability (if applicable) and any required information such as remission evidence or instrument hire details.

Does registering guarantee lessons?

No. Submitting a registration form does not guarantee lessons. Places are subject to teacher availability and, where relevant, group viability.

Do lessons happen every week?

We aim to provide regular weekly lessons during term time, but this is not always possible due to teacher absence, school closures, staff training or other timetable changes. TVMS aims to provide 30 guaranteed lessons across an academic year (pro rata when starting within a school year).

Can my child hire an instrument?

Yes. Instrument hire is available and should be indicated during registration where needed.

What happens if there are not enough pupils for a group?

If there are not enough registrations for a viable group, TVMS will let you know and advise on available options.

Can my child learn a second instrument?

Yes, subject to teacher availability. TVMS currently offers a 25% discount for pupils taking tuition on a second instrument.
