FOR GROWN-UPS!

You don't have to be a "good" singer - if you can hum, come sing with us!

We have three adult community choirs;

  • Middlesbrough Community Choir rehearse Tuesdays 18:30-19:30 at St Josephs RC Primary, Middlesbrough

  • Steel Sisters (ladies choir) rehearse Thursdays 18:30-20:00 at Green Dragon Studios, Stockton

  • Tees Valley Wellness Choir rehearse Fridays 15:30-17:30 at Yarm Wellness centre

While each choir has its own character and all choirs contribute to emotional and mental wellbeing, with its built-in 'biscuit break' Wellness Choir has a more focussed approach on reducing social isolation and improving community resilience and togetherness; Middlesbrough Choir is slightly more advanced and in just an hour's rehearsal focusses primarily on uplifting music; and Steel Sisters is a women's only choir. Each week we sing together, chat and have fun.

Working in the Community

TVMS see the impact that music has on people and we’re committed to offering our facilities and resources to more people. We can provide events and workshops for the wider community too. If you want to try Japanese Taiko Drumming, African Drumming, Song Writing or rocking out in our Sound Pod facility, whether you are a church, corporate body or social organisation – contact us for more information or to book an event.

COVID-19 Care Home Project

During the first and second COVID-19 Lockdowns, Tees Valley Youth Choir recorded and produced singalong videos, aimed at keeping care home residents smiling during such difficult times.  Nikki Lycett-Findlay, TVYC’s Musical Director, wrote in a dedicated post on Facebook that she “hoped the singalongs bring the residents some joy and comfort in these challenging times.”

Community Choir Sing-Along Resources

Subsequent to 2020/21 lockdown restrictions, it became impossible for ensembles and community groups to meet in person. Therefore, many of our ensembles moved to rehearsing and performing virtually. This was also the case for the Durham and Tees Valley Teachers’ Choir.  Resources have now been provided by TVMS staff to support Durham and Tees Valley Teachers’ Choir members, but also any other community choirs rehearsing during a time when face-to-face meetings aren’t possible.
