Snappy Classroom - EYFS
Snappy Classroom sessions develop the children’s repertoire of songs and instrument activities and encourage them to move in time to music. Activities will particularly support the following learning goals (EYFS handbook 2021). Expressive arts: sing a range of well-known nursery rhymes and songs Perform songs, rhymes, (poems and stories) with others; when appropriate try to move in time with music. Communication and Language: listen attentively. Personal, Social and Emotional Development: give focused attention to what the teacher says and show an ability to follow instructions involving several ideas or actions.

Develop by singing new words with actions: Clap your hands – hello Tap your knees - hello Sing an instrument version. Use the symbols for shaking, tapping and scraping sounds or pictures of different instruments. Play the shakers – hello Play the tappers – hello Play the scrapers - hello
SHAKE AND STOP
Sing with actions: You’ve gotta shake and shake and shake and stop Shake and shake and shake and stop Shake and shake and shake and stop Now we’ll shake some more. Repeat for various actions for example: Clap and clap and clap and stop Pat and pat and pat and stop Jump and jump and jump and stop etc Use actions for shake, tap, scrape before introducing instruments. Look at different percussion instruments. Which ones can we shake, tap and scrape? Invite children to choose an instrument and decide whether it taps, shakes or scrapes. Use the tap, shake and scrape cards for children to follow. Sing the song and play during the appropriate verses.

Brown bear’s snoring, brown bear’s snoring In his winter sleep Brown bear’s snoring, brown bear’s snoring In his winter sleep Snow and ice are melting Icicles are dropping Brown bear’s ears are listening and his eyes begin to peep. Use ‘thinking voice’ or hum the song during the instrumental version. How many snores does Brown Bear do each time? (three) Use a picture of three z symbols to represent the three snores. Choose instruments to play the three snoring sounds quietly at the end of the first two lines. If liked, repeat this using shaking, tapping and scraping sounds.
