Coronavirus Outbreak Update

Following the latest Government’s advice (Wednesday 18th March) we have updated our response to tackle the spread of the Coronavirus Outbreak. With this in mind, we have had to make the sad but necessary decision of cancelling all of our group and one-to-one lessons as well as our Music Centre bands, orchestras and choirs for the foreseeable future. All upcoming events have also either been cancelled or postponed to later dates.

This will come into affect on Monday 23rd March and will end when the Government advise schools it is safe to reopen.

What do we have planned for lessons going forward?

During the first week of closure our TVMS staff will work on resources, videos and teaching materials – some bespoke for individual students and some which are appropriate for groups of students and whole classes.

These activities are very much like the resources schools are preparing and they will be uploaded onto our teaching platform, Charanga. More details of this will emerge in the next few days.

On this platform students will find tailored tuition videos from their music teachers, accompanied with musical games, stories, activities, worksheets and video quizzes to support and enhance their learning. Other musical elements that will be included are musical theory and examples to support with listening and music appreciation activities.

There will also be some resources available for whole-class students playing an instrument which will support the development of their musicality and technique. We have opted to teach remotely using videos and web resources rather than webinars in order to safeguard our staff and their students and to try to support children being able to access the resources at a time that suits them.

We have made a decision that is the most effective way for students to be able to continue their musical journey with us rather than organise a scheduled time which may be difficult for pupils to access because of other activities, family commitments or technical issues. Many resources have been specifically designed by TVMS Staff to support our students and will be pitched at appropriate levels for all ages and abilities. We will be providing more bespoke and individual video lessons for students at intermediate and advanced levels so these students can still progress and be ready for any ABRSM or Trinity exams or performance exams they have coming up in school as part of their pieces and scales etc. Pupils will also receive feedback in the form of a video or written notes from their TVMS teacher.

Our teaching videos (either for a group of learners at the same level or for a one to one student, or a whole-class session) will be either in a short sequence of teaching, maybe condensed into 10 minute chunks to give time in between for the student to pause the video and practise what is being taught/demonstrated.

It is very important to us that our schools, teachers, parents and students are supported and that when we are all able to return to our normal day-to-day activities the students should have all made progress. The first set of resources should be available later next week and we’ll provide you details of how to access our online learning resources in the next few days. We’d really appreciate your support to encourage your children to access these resources, particularly groups of students and one to one students who have had bespoke resources prepared for them.

This model will continue on a weekly basis until we are told by Public Health England and the Government that it is safe to return to our usual working practices.

If you have any problems with your hired instrument (e.g. broken strings/sticky valves etc.) please email Alan Rutter, our Support Service Manager and he will arrange a time for your instrument to be repaired. All other queries should be emailed to TVMS and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Please kindly continue to pay your monthly fees.   All refunds for unoffered tuition will be implemented at the end of Summer term 2020, as per our Terms and Conditions (available on our website).

Please continue to check this page as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages for any further updates and developments. We will also send out important developments to parent email addresses so please ensure you have an up-to-date email address on your account.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to put contingency measures in place. We hope you and your families all remain in good health throughout this very difficult time.
